Core Activities
Research and recent events have demonstrated again that Irish people have a real interest and concern for issues of global poverty and development. Ireland is also one of the most globalised countries in the world, very open and welcoming of outside influences and subject to outside events. Irish society is becoming more diverse and multi-cultural.
Connect-World’s role is to facilitate a deeper dialogue between the development community and the media and to help promote a deeper critical analysis of global issues. It will be innovative in its approach to awareness raising using all media, and in particular broadcast media, in the context of this growing global citizenship.
Connect-World will seek to influence media organisations, in particular broadcasters, to increase their coverage of international issues, set in a context of long-term development and to increase the value associated with programming on international development.
It will undertake research on attitudes to development in the media and in the general public.
It will work with those involved in the education of journalists to help ensure that the issues surrounding global poverty and development are well understood by those who will be involved in reporting on them.
